Paint Your Walls After Cleaning

In our previous blog post, we talked about steps to take so your walls look spotless. Now, we are going to talk about choosing the right paint and finish for your walls to help them look even better. Whether you have recently moved into a new home or are looking to update your current abode, a fresh coat of paint is one of the best ways to re-envision your homes appearance.

A new paint color can do wonders for updating the feel of your home, but for families with young children and pets, keeping your walls clean can seem like an impossible task. So you know you should paint your walls, but with so many colors and finishes to choose from, how do you know what will hold up the best to daily wear?

Focus on light colors

Many people make the mistake of choosing neutral wall colors just because they are good at hiding dirty handprints, but there are plenty of other options you can look at. Try to stick to pale hues and midtones. Colors like dark reds, blues and purples will actually show wear much more quickly than their lighter counterparts, burnishing in spots where your pets and children rub against them.

Choose the right finish

After choosing the right color, you’ll have to choose a paint finish which can also be overwhelming. If you don’t like the look of the shiny appearance of semi-gloss and hi-gloss enamel paint, try an eggshell finish. This is a durable and less reflective finish that is easy to clean. Eggshell will hold up well against dirt and grime your children may coat it with throughout the years.

Don’t forget to clean with your eraser sponge

Although we hope that your newly painted walls stay clean and fresh looking for a long time, accidents do happen. Whether it’s play dough stains, marker or beverage stains that ended up on the walls, the eraser sponge is tough enough to get the job done but gentle enough not to damage your paint’s finish! How to Have Spotless Walls

Perhaps you’ve been putting off cleaning your walls all summer and now you are shocked to see what wound up on them. Don’t put this task off any longer!  To help you out, we have put together a simple step by step instruction of how to remove any sort of mess on your walls to make sure they are looking great!

Step one: Eliminate any cobwebs

This is the part of cleaning we don’t like to think about since cobwebs tend to mean spiders. However, getting rid of huge clumps of dust, dirt or lint will make it easier for you to get at the stickier mess. To do this, use a cloth or a vacuum, depending on where the location is.

Step two: Eliminate any crayon marks

If you have children, crayons can go missing or get used for the wrong purposes. Check to see if you see crayon marks on any of your walls. If you do, make sure there are no clumps of crayon on the wall. Smearing large chunks can make your mess even bigger! Once the chunks are off, gently rub the area with an eraser sponge and the crayon will lift right up. Use a towel to spot dry, if need be.

Step three: Eliminate beverage stains

We have all opened a bottle of soda, only to have it fizz up to the ceiling and walls and what a mess it makes! To remove the stains, if you have a magic eraser, try using that first. It will save a lot of time and scrubbing. If you do don’t have one, then a mild detergent will be gentle enough to be used on stained walls.

You will find that after all of this hard work, your walls will look like new! If we have inspired to clean, visit our cleaning product supplies online and be sure to give us a call at 877-776-6430 with any questions you have!

Why You Shouldn’t DIY Eraser Sponges

When it comes to household cleaning, most homeowners can agree that eraser sponges are a staple. People swear by them since they can get almost anything out of any surface, there is very little that an eraser sponge cannot do! Although eraser sponges are easy enough to obtain, people are always looking for homemade solutions, especially since DIY crafts are trending.

However some things, like an eraser sponge, cannot be replicated.

Regardless, people still try and you may see DIY eraser sponge tutorials on Pinterest or Youtube. The tutorials claim that eraser sponges will get stains out of walls, floors and surfaces which sounds great, however the DIY substance that you make based off of a strangers advice is likely to make an even bigger mess!

The material used in DIY is referred to as Melamine Foam. This foam is an efficient tool for removing stains and it’s easy enough to get the material, but executing the creation of a quality eraser sponge is much more difficult than a DIY project.

Trying to DIY with this project just isn’t worth the possible outcomes.

Instead of attempting to make your own eraser sponge, make it easier on yourself and order from Spongeoutlet!  We are the leading online distributor of bulk melamine eraser sponges, microfiber towels, dusters, mops and other essential cleaning supplies. Clean These Children’s Items With Our Eraser Sponge

Do you have children? If you do, chances are, they have accumulated many toys and belongings over the past few years. It can often be a tough chore to keep their belongings clean, but with an eraser sponge, it should be a little easier.

Here are five things that can be cleaned with everyone’s favorite products!

Action Figures and Dolls

Since the faces of the dolls are a soft vinyl, they can come clean pretty easily by just gently wiping them down so you don’t scratch the surface!

Grimy Sneakers

Children are notorious for running in the mud and splashing in every puddle they come across – especially now that they are headed back to school! Instead of buying new sneaks, just clean your child’s existing sneakers and they will think they are as good as new! To clean them, you won’t need much water with the eraser sponge, so you can put them on your child and leave right away instead of waiting for them to dry.

Lunchboxes

Now that school is starting again, you might not need to clean your child’s lunchbox right away since it’s probably new, but soon enough it will need a good cleaning. When you need to, wipe down the lunchbox with an eraser sponge to eliminate any build up.

Gaming Systems

If your child has been playing video games a lot over the summer, now might be a good time to clean everything while they are at school! While you shouldn’t use water on these consoles, a well rung out eraser sponge would do wonders when it comes to cleaning the console itself, the controllers, or even hand held games that get carried around.

Anything to do with babies

If you have a baby or toddler, chances are many of the items you use don’t stay clean for long. Cribs, highchairs, booster seats, diaper bags… the list goes on and on. It’s important to keep your baby’s belongings clean so why not use a simple tool to get the job done?

Stained Plastic Containers? Try Eraser Sponges

Your plastics will look brand new after giving your eraser sponge a whirl.

You just opened your dishwasher and all of your pots, pans, cups and plates are sparkling clean except the plastic container you put your leftover spaghetti sauce in the night before. It’s still coated in the same greasy red and orange oil it had when you first put it in the dishwasher. Or perhaps you have scrubbed and soaked the plastic container with soap and hot water but the greasy texture won’t seem to budge.

If the dishwashing detergents can’t cut through the grease along with the hot water and soap, then what can?

Thankfully it turns out that all you need is an eraser sponge from Spongeoutlet! These little miracle pieces of melamine foam can take out greasy, oily red pasta sauce stains. Your plastics will look brand new after giving your eraser sponge a whirl. Gently rub the stains with a damp eraser sponge, wash the item with soapy water and rinse clean.

Keep Your Cleaning Products Clean

Holiday Cleaning Tips

We’ve all looked down at the brown broom or sponge in our hand at some point and thought, “Wow, this has to be cleaned or replaced.”

Often times, our cleaning tools that we use are dirty themselves and they also need to be cleaned and up kept.

Below, we talk about the best ways to keep your mops, sponges and other cleaning appliances clean and germ-free.

Brooms and Mops

You should actually be regularly cleaning your broom: shake and beat it outside once a week to get rid of built up dust. You should also wash it with warm, soapy water at least once a month, and consider keeping one broom outside and one broom inside, to limit the transfer of unnecessary dirt.

You should also wash and sanitize your mop head often, but it does depend on usage; most mop heads are machine washable now. Toss your mop head right into the washer with detergent and a bit of bleach.

The Dishwasher

The dishwasher can build up germs, and even mold, if it’s not cleaned and thoroughly dried frequently. Do you usually run it every day? That could mean that your dishwasher is never truly dry which makes it a risk for mold growth. Leave this dishwasher open when a cycle is finished so that the dishwasher and the dishes can completely dry.

Every few weeks, wipe down the racks and the walls of the dishwasher with a cloth dampened with white vinegar. Pour a cup of vinegar into a glass, place it on the top rack, and run the dishwasher at the hottest cycle.

Sponges

Sponges should be thoroughly rinsed and wrung out after each use. You should also be regularly replacing your sponges as well, in order to eliminate spreading bacteria.

Cleaning Walls can Preserve Home

Cleaning Wall

When you’re working through your to-do list for cleaning your home, you probably have countertops, bathrooms, and floors towards the top of the list.

However, cleaning your walls is an important part of home maintenance that you should be doing at least once a year.

A simple swipe of a vacuum likely isn’t enough especially if you’re cleaning a high-traffic room.

Take a look at the walls in your living room or kitchen, especially near doorframes and light switches.

  • If you haven’t cleaned these walls in some time, you’ll probably notice a significant amount of dust and dirt building up.

Whether you are planning to spot clean latex-painted walls or do a floor-to-ceiling wipe down, the first step is to mix a few drops of dish detergent in with some warm water. Use an eraser sponge to clean, lightly scrubbing the area.

  • Make sure to watch for dripping: if you don’t evenly apply water to the paint, it could cause discoloration.

For oil-based paints, you can add a mild de-greaser into to the detergent and water mixture. Follow the same steps, and use a gentle microfiber cloth to wash.

If you have stubborn spots that need a little extra attention, our eraser sponges should be able to eliminate them. Remember that if you rub too vigorously, you could remove some of the paint. Be careful to scrub in gentle circular motions to remove stains.

Even though washing your walls isn’t something you may think to do often, taking care of the paint on your walls will prevent long-term, hard-to-get-out stains and help maintain your home and paint.
